Problems Showering with Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

A morning shower -- it helps you start the day invigorated and refreshed, right? Um, no, not so much for many of us. A shower seems like a basic, simple thing, but it can pose major problems for someone with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.I've seen a lot of comments here about how exhausting a shower can be. Why would a shower make us tired, sometimes even wiping us out for the rest of the day? Several of our physiological abnormalities could be playing into it.

20 Reasons you should Drink Lemon Water in the Morning

Adding lemon to water not only quenches thirst better than any other beverage, but it also nourishes our body with vitamins, minerals and trace elements which we absolutely need. Lemon with water can be considered the best natural energy booster. When we wake up in the morning, our bodily tissues are dehydrated and are in need of water to push out toxins and rejuvenate the cells. In other words, this homemade “lemonade” helps eliminate internal toxins, regulating proper kidney and  digestive tract functions by forcing them to work as smoothly as possible.

11 Signs You're Sleep Deprived

The Health Rising ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Forums Are Here!

It’s finally happened. The Health Rising ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Forums are open for business. The Health Rising Forums are here! We (Stavya and I) actually started working on them well over a year ago. Why did it take so long? We scoured the market for ways to improve the Forums and settled on some add on’s that were and still are under development. Plus putting together a complex package like this takes time. If it was not for Stavya, who quickly turned out to be an ace on the technical side, they never would have happened. But here they are. But why, with my old stomping ground – Phoenix Rising – thriving why build another Forums? That takes a little history.

34 Ways To Feel Happier Right Now

Many of us are guilty of thinking that joy is a journey. We'll achieve happiness, we tell ourselves, if we accomplish a goal five years from now. We'll be happy, we think, once we've made a big change that will eventually lead us to our ideal life. And though it may be tempting to view happiness as a permanent state for the future, the field of happiness research tells a very different story. Here's the real truth: We don't have to work as hard as we think we do to get to a state of bliss. Sometimes a little tweak, shift or new habit is all it takes.
In honor of the International Day of Happiness, we've rounded up some tricks to help you get to a positive place -- without taking the long road to joy. Go on and give them a try. Happiness looks good on you.

Better butter than any old oils

Did you ever find yourself daydreaming about a nice bit of lard? Maybe you were overcome by a craving for animal fat, slowly melting in a pan? No? Well, understandably so. Large amounts of fat or oil are not considered a palatable food but more than anything else, you could literally watch your arteries clog up and hear your heart gasping for oxygen….. or could you?
You can already tell that we have many questions to ask when it comes to fats. The message about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fats is emphatic but their definition has become somewhat distorted, heavily influenced by the food and drug industry, the media and a propagated fear of saturated fat. For decades we have been told that we eat too much saturated fat and we should be increasing the amount of polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) in our diet to harvest their health benefits. It certainly looks like we have succeeded because the average American now consumes around 40g of PUFAs a day in comparison to just 20g in the 1950’s. According to this wisdom, our heart health policy should have been successful but, instead, nearly every condition related to chronic inflammation is on the rise.

Juvenile Primary Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Listen

Fibromyalgia (fy-bro-my-AL-ja) is a long-term, or chronic, syndrome that causes widespread pain in the muscles, joints, and other soft tissues of the body. The term "fibromyalgia" comes from the Latin word "fibro" for fibrous tissue, and the Greek "myo" for muscle, and "algos" meaning pain. In kids, it is sometimes referred to as juvenile primary fibromyalgia syndrome.

Juvenile Primary Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Background
Juvenile primary fibromyalgia syndrome (JPFS) is a musculoskeletal pain syndrome characterized by multiple discrete tender points (TPs), fatigue, and sleep disturbance in the child and adolescent. JPFS can be chronic in nature and can necessitate a multidisciplinary approach to the ongoing treatment of the disorder. The pain experienced is modulated by factors such as activity, anxiety, stress, and weather changes.
The diagnosis is made on the basis of the presence or absence of specific criteria that have been found to be consistent with those who experience JPFS (see Differentials). The chronic nature of fibromyalgia in the pediatric population suggests consequences for psychosocial development and implies a more difficult transition from childhood to adulthood.[1]

Weather and Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes patients a great deal of pain, and the pain is chronic. Some people experience the pain all the time, and others will experience it when they have what is called a flare up. But what causes Fibromyalgia flare-ups? Researchers and doctors have been able to show a link between stress, anxiety, and flare-ups.
Weather seems to be a common factor when it comes to a flare-up, and some people who suffer from the condition say weather is a big factor. Research has not proven that the weather has a significant effect on fibromyalgia flare-ups, but this does not mean that people cannot experience pain related to fibromyalgia.

"Don't tell me to snap out of it!"

Those words, recently overhead in the forum, express the frustration many of you feel living with depression, post-traumatic stress (PTS) or any kind of mental illness or chronic condition. We all know the term stigma - disapproval and discrimination because of a condition you did not ask for and do not want. Many of you share that this sets you apart from friends, family and society - a "lonely" place to be.
Some of you openly share about how feeling that kind of stigma might lead you to isolate yourself to avoid judgment, or how you avoid seeking proper care and treatment or social support. It's a common discussion topic within all of our communities - no matter your condition.

Fighting Fatigue with Ground-breaking French Oak Wood Extract

To date, as many as 4 million Americans are suffering from the debilitating effects of chronic fatigue syndrome.1
After decades of research, doctors remain puzzled as to how to treat this mysterious condition that involves unexplainable, extreme fatigue.2 Unfortunately, there are no pharmaceuticals to treat chronic fatigue syndrome other than sleeping pills and antidepressants, which do not resolve the problem.3
Frustrated by a lack of treatment options, an international team of researchers has focused their attention on a group of unique molecules called roburins, which are derived from oak wood.

Here's Why You Should Always Freeze Your Lemons

All kinds of people are saying that the entire lemon should be used with nothing wasted. Not only for the obvious health benefits but also for the amazing taste! How? Simple, take an ORGANIC lemon, wash it and then put it in the freezer. Once it is frozen you get whatever is necessary to grate or shred the whole lemon without even peeling it first.

A personal  note from Vicky

The picture shows me showing ‘Be Activated’ sessions at the East Surrey Hospital.  I was asked to come along and lead some meditation/relaxation sessions at their health and wellness day.  The fact that people are stressed can impact on the way the body holds itself and performs and lots of people were interested in how we  could correct that. It’s something I inflict on people in my private classes and is one of the reasons I feel that my classes are unique.

The eclipse yesterday was something of a disappointment.  I was en route to a hospital visit.  It was cloudy so the sun was not visible, and it got a tad dull, but not dark although cars  mostly had their headlights on,  You would never have known it had happened but for the media hype.  A bit of an anticlimax!
Perhaps it was more visible where you are?
Maybe the next one will be better, but I doubt I'll still be around for that!!!
Bye for now
